Hisense in Chinese connotes an ocean-like broad vision and credibility that Hisense always values. The English name Hisense is composed of “high” and “sense”, which connote Hisense’s persistent pursuit of high technology, high quality and high taste. Hisense brand was recognized as a Famous Trademark in China by the State Administration of Industry and Commerce on January 5, 1999. Founded as Qingdao No.2 Radio Factory in 1969, Hisense has now developed into a group corporation which has two listed companies (Hisense Electric Co., Ltd. (600060), on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and Hisense Kelon Electrical Holdings Company Ltd. (000921), on the Shenzhen and Hong Kong Stock Exchanges), owns three famous trademarks (Hisense, Kelon and Ronshen), and provides a wide range of products and services including "consumer electronics", "home appliances", "telecommunications", "information technologies" and "real estate and service". Hisense adhere to the development strategy of "high-tech, high-quality, high level of service, and to create an internationally famous brand", and set the industrial structure optimization as the base, technological innovation as the driving force, and capital operation as a lever, in which case, it rapidly grows and firstly constructed the 3C framework led by home appliances, communication, and information, with its leading products of TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, mobile phones, moulding, fiber optical transceivers, and intelligent transportation systems. Up to now, Hisense has a powerful annual capacity to produce 16.1 million colour TVs, 9.2 million air-conditioners, 10 million refrigerators, 700 thousand freezers and 4.9 million mobile phones. The sales revenue in 2009 expects 8.2 billion USD, ranking among the top 100 Chinese electronic manufacturers. In the list of China top 500 competitive enterprises analyzed by National Bureau of Statistics of China, Hisense has been ranked No. 1 for two consecutive years. In June 2008, Hisense was chosen among top ten typical state-owned enterprises selected by Central Propaganda Department and State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC).


Hisense is a state-level technology center and a first-class scientific research workstation for post-doctoral scientists. Drawing upon high level technology, Hisense has always been the benchmark in the Chinese electronics industry. On June 26, 2005, Hisense developed and marketed the first industrialized China-made digital media processing chip. This historic event was significant in that it was the first time China possessed the independent intellectual property rights to an indigenously produced chip. In 2005, Hisense officially launched China's vector inverter control technology, thus breaking Japan’s high-end technology blockade for China enterprises as long as eight years; in December 2005, in Beijing Olympic procurement tenders of intelligent transportation system, Hisense defeated the world's strongest rival ranking No.1 in the test for performance and won 2008 Olympic Games Beijing intelligent traffic management, investment and construction projects. At present, Hisense intelligent transportation products in the domestic urban intelligent signal management system has occupied 20% of the share, Intelligence System in the Rapid Transit (BRT) market share is over 70%, creating No.3 of the World Intelligent Transportation Systems - HiCon. What’s more, in September 2007, China color TV industry’s first LCD module production line was officially put into operation at Hisense; in July 2008, Hisense launched China's first LED LCD TV and has among the world's five enterprises to apply the large-size LED backlight LCD TV modules to products.


As one of the first batch of state-level innovative enterprises and the pilot research and development center of state-level innovative enterprises, Hisense has the state-level technological center, the digital multimedia technology laboratory (a national key laboratory) and the postdoctoral research institute. Hisense is the technology industrialization base in the national 863 Program, the software industry base in the national Torch Program. Hisense has R&D centers in Qingdao, Shenzhen, Shunde, Beijing, USA and Europe, and it generally established the global R & D system.
